GRANT CHALMERS never got to score in a Muratti final against Jersey.
But the former professional footballer did pick up two Muratti winners medals in his time as one of the green-and-whites’ finest players and he has now beaten their best in his new sporting challenge – cycling.
He was the fastest man in the annual inter-insular time trial, in which the Sarnians won all bar one category in Jersey.
When staged in the sister isle, the event takes place around a technical course which features a number of long drags and some tricky corners which, if not alert, can send riders the wrong way.
Thankfully for the 13 Guernsey riders, the course was well marshaled and time spent the day before riding and driving the course a number of times meant that most of the competitors stayed on course.
