Druce left wanting

TOM DRUCE felt the full force of the new power of British 400m running at the Aviva European Trials and AAA Championships in Birmingham on Saturday.

Despite a season’s best 47.78sec. he failed to qualify for the final, finishing fifth in one of four tough heats in which only the winner was guaranteed to go through.

‘I feel kind of indifferent about it – shame to not perform well at national champs but it was only my second race while everyone else is well into their season.

‘At least the muscle problem is under control now so can train hard this week then off to Belgium next weekend.’
