CGT hike timing ‘disappointing’

Tuesday 29th June 2010, 2:30PM BST.

Paul BlackwellIT IS disappointing that the UK’s rate of capital gains tax was changed part-way through the year, Deloitte senior manager Paul Blackwell has said.

One of the measures in Chancellor George Osborne’s emergency Budget saw capital gains tax rise from 18% to 28% for higher rate taxpayers from midnight on Budget day.

An ‘entrepreneurs’ relief’ rate of 10% on the first £2m. of gains will now be extended to the first £5m.

Mr Blackwell (pictured) said the change was a little disappointing as people had not been given a reasonable chance to crystallise gains accrued to date at the lower rates, with any degree of certainty on how they would be taxed.

As as our [insert relevant Deist-related-human-avatar here] weeps with concern, doesn’t the pundit also comment that that, and I have to paraphrase as I ‘recycled’ the paper copy earlier today, explain that it gives opportunities for our ‘sophisticated’ ‘local’ finance industry to ‘plan’ against any loss in wealth ‘preservation’?

The Lords grieve for the rich, and the instruments of the rich to make themselves richer; mostly by selling instruments to the ignorant that believe that they’ll be ‘wealthily preserved’ by these Adonis impersonators who speak like Hermes.

His latest letter, btw (29/06/10) is, in fact, a very well studied observation on human metaphysical existence.

A debate is welcome, but it seems the wrong kinda thread!

Anyhoo – those who think the UK’s ‘coalition’ Government’s strategy is helpful – full with “get on yer bike” nonsense, are truly not not updated.

Be updated. It’s quite easy. It’s called thinking. Costs nothing too, that could be a selling point to some of you wallet-admirers.
