No more bid wars
Tuesday 29th June 2010, 2:30PM BST.
THE bidding war between Jersey and Gotland to host the 2015 NatWest Island Games could well be the last of its kind.
That is the view of Guernsey Island Games Association chairman Dave Inglis (pictured), who witnessed Jersey’s 28-27 victory in the Isle of Wight on Sunday in what was the closest vote in the history of the Games.
And after the money spent on both bids, Inglis thinks uncontested decisions may become more regular soon.
‘People are realising now that it is better to spend the money on infrastructure, rather than just on the bid itself.’
Although Menorca was widely expected to launch a bid to host the 2017 Games, which will be decided in two years’ time, they may stand aside to allow Gotland to win an uncontested vote, after their narrow defeat at the weekend.
