FORT LE MARCHANT rifle range was the scene of a superb Guernsey victory on Saturday morning as the local shooters took a win from a strong Jersey team who have dominated target rifle shooting in recent years.
The competition is shot by teams of eight as a ‘Queens II’, which comprises two sighters and 10 rounds to count at 300, 500 and 600 yards.
The Jersey team are traditionally stronger at 300 yards, but this time Guernsey emerged the leaders, albeit by just nine ‘V’ bulls, scoring 396.57 out of a possible 400.80 to Jersey’s 396.48.
No fewer than five local marksmen scored 50s with Peter Jory and Mike Martel leading the way with superb 50.09s.
