THE tenants of Pembroke Kiosk yesterday won the right to trade for another five years.
It was a victory of sorts against the Treasury and Resources Department which, prior to yesterday’s hearing, had argued for a maximum stay of eviction of six months, but was far less than the 21 years the De Carteret family had hoped for.
Lynn and husband Gary have spent years fighting eviction from the kiosk, which they have run for 15.
Mrs de Carteret said they were thankful to have been given until 2015 by the Royal Court but hoped that would be extended – and the jurats yesterday said they would like that to be considered.

Right, so this will be popping up again in 5 years will it?

Well done to the De Carteret family for this small step forward. Lets hope T&R will allow you to operate after 2015 and finally leave you alone.
Good luck

Does this mean they’ll now open the kiosk when they should and not just when it suits them?

well done to you and your family, just shows you that hard working Guernsey people can stand up to the powers that be,and not be dictated to, thought all that went out of the window in 1945,

Brilliant result for a Brilliant Family!

Don’t quite understand your post carts….beach kiosks all over the island are seasonal. What’s the point in opening a beach kiosk in the middle of a November storm?!

PLeP: A major point in this case is that kiosks on a tenancy from the States need to open stipulated dates (and hours I believe?). I understand that this kiosk doesn’t do that, but creams it off on the best days while the neighbouring kiosk plays it by the rules.

tucker,,,,,, my wife and i made it a point to see which kiosks were open and which were shut the last couple of months, and guess what pembroke came out on top,as they opened, more than quit a few of the others

Must agree with Tucker, Pembroke are inconsistent with opening times. Summer contracting includes all weathers.

Interesting comment Gazza – I did the same thing and Pembroke were certainly NOT open from Easter (as all kiosks are supposed to) but waited until the summer started i.e. when it suited them!! No-one expects the kiosks to open in the pouring rain (but some do!) The best ones like Chouet and Vazon stick to the rules and open from Easter to the end of the summer.
