ISLANDERS are being urged to protect local green ‘monuments’.
The Guernsey Society of the Men of the Trees yesterday launched its Treasured Trees initiative and guest speaker Jon Stokes of the UK Tree Council (pictured) has made it his aim to see historic and significant trees recognised as heritage sites.

He said the only way to ensure their long-term protection was to encourage people to care more.
