Chamber joins fight against marine diesel levy
Friday 2nd July 2010, 2:29PM BST.
THE Chamber of Commerce is backing marine traders as they fight a proposed duty on marine diesel.
Treasury and Resources announced in May plans to revisit the levy.
Protests from boaters saw marine petrol spared the 14p road fund levy, when car tax was switched to fuel.
Marine petrol is currently dutied at 21.8p per litre, petrol and diesel road fuel at 37p and marine diesel not at all.
The department was criticised by many in the marine industry who felt that dutying marine diesel would be damaging for the island.
