POLICE officers are accused of threatening to break into a law firm in an early-morning hunt for a computer and a mobile phone.

According to court documents, four officers entered AFR Advocates in Court Place, Rue du Manoir, St Peter Port, after waking an advocate at 3am on Saturday 5 July and demanding he open up the offices immediately.

The law firm yesterday began an action against Chief of Police George Le Page, who applied for the search warrant, and Judge of the Royal Court Russell Finch, who issued it.

It claims that the police could, by taking the wrong computer, have left the business unable to function. AFR says that would have had ‘a huge impact on the applicants’ reputations … in fact it could have destroyed it completely’.

According to the documents, AFR partner Advocate Paul Richardson asked whether the warrant could be delayed until later that morning or until he had spoken to his partners, advocates Mark Ferbrache, Sara Mallett and Simon Geall.
