TRADE links with France are expected to have become stronger as a result of the island’s first ‘speed dating’ business event.

Aimed at all local business sectors, it was arranged by Commerce and Employment, the Chamber of Commerce and freight company Huelin-Renouf Shipping, which started a freight service to Cherbourg in March.

Just under 40 French companies from sectors including construction, food, furniture, decorating and sport came for the day-long session at the St Pierre Park Hotel to discuss with their Guernsey counterparts any possible business links and opportunities.

About 60 representatives from 43 Guernsey businesses came to see them.
