Dorey was ‘Mr Vale Rec’

Wednesday 7th July 2010, 2:30PM BST.

Dave DoreyFOOTBALL will never have a better administrator.

A big statement, but one former Guernsey Football Association president Alec Le Noury was happy to put forward as the tributes to Dave Dorey (pictured) poured in yesterday.

There will be few, if any, who would disagree with Le Noury’s assessment of Dorey’s influence on island football, first as a youthful secretary at Vale Rec and then over nine years as secretary of the island association, before taking over the top job on Le Noury’s retirement.

‘I always said he was irreplaceable and I don’t think we will ever see a better administrator than Dave,’ said Le Noury, who enjoyed the benefit of having him as his right-hand man for much of his 19 years as head of the GFA.

‘He dedicated the whole of his adult life to football. He ate and slept it,’ added Le Noury.

Dave was a legend as far as local football goes… Unfortunately there are no more like him or Martyn Le Prevost around anymore & that is a big blow to Guernsey football as a whole…

    Gone but never forgotten…

Dave was at Vale Rec when I was a kid. I must have driven him mad with all my bad behaviour, but all I ever got in return was his support!
    Thank You Dave.

Dave Dorey was a man of unique qualities. He made you feel most welcome and on football matters, there was no equal. I shall always remember the welcome he gave to our Football Association on our first visit to Guernsey,he made sure that everything ran so smoothly. As a colleague of Dave’s on the South West Counties Management Committee,we shall miss him sorely for his knowledge and expertise as V/Chairman.
