L’ANCRESSE put up a tremendous fight but found that they could not overcome home advantage in the CI section final of the Hampshire Sevens.

The Guernsey winners were beaten by the slenderest of margins, four rubbers to three, away at Les Ormes in Jersey on Sunday, but L’Ancresse captain Eric Legg was proud of his team’s efforts.

‘It was a total nail-biter down to the last hole,’ he said.

‘Although we lost a very close match, we were very pleased with how we did overall.’
