Policy Council considers finance industry survey

Dr Andy SloanTHE Policy Council is considering ways in which it could obtain clearer information on the economic output of the finance sector.

Together with Commerce and Employment, the council earlier this year launched the States’ first annual business survey but while that is primarily concerned with trade and investment, any further initiative would be purely focused on the finance industry.

It could follow similar lines to the States of Jersey’s long-running survey of financial institutions which last week revealed that for 2009, that island’s finance sector saw its profits fall from more than £1.5bn in 2008 to £809m.

But States economist Dr Andy Sloan (pictured) said the idea was very much in the preliminary stages.
