Six firsts for women while men are fourth
Thursday 8th July 2010, 2:29PM BST.
THE Sportingbet Channel Island women’s nine-strong squad came home with six first places in this weekend’s UK Women’s Athletic League Division IV match.
Louise Perrio (pictured), Guernsey’s only representative, took first place in both the 3,000m B and 2,000m Steeplechase A, Jersey’s Claire Forbes took top place in both the 800m B and 1,500m B and Sophie Twinam (400 Hurdles A) and Kathryn Rothwell (Discus A) both had first placings in these events.
‘With such a small squad compared to the teams they are competing against in the UK, we are unable to have a representative in all the events which ultimately means we lose out on valuable points,’ said CIAC coach Andrew Winnie.
‘As it is, those that did go, did brilliantly.’
