AS CLASSIC finishes go, the 2009 Sark to Jersey race will take some beating.

Just eight seconds separated the first boats into Bonne Nuit Bay on Jersey’s north coast.

A year on, the winning margin was almost as close, with just 26sec. separating first and second on a day when the power of Sarnian rowing again left their Caesarean rivals in their wake.

Guernsey crews filled five of the first six places on a fiercely hot day in which the predicted flat sea did not materialise.

Overall honours went to the Geomarine boat of Tom de Kooker, James Coquelin, Shaun Kelling and Simon Johns with Lloyd Le Page as their coach and cox.
