St Martin’s wins top Floral parish

ST MARTIN’S has walked away with two top awards at this year’s Floral Guernsey Community awards. The parish was named as overall winner at an awards ceremony on Saturday at Beau Sejour. It also retained its title for best douzaine room.
Herm and St Andrew’s also won gold awards, with a silver gilt going to St Peter Port and silver awards to Forest and St Saviour’s.
St Andrew’s was also given an award for the best local environment, as well as a local-roots awards for planting around the Little Chapel.
The Royal Court’s was recognised as the best floral display, while the parish of St Peter Port won the Ossie Falla Memorial Award for outstanding contribution towards the community.
Bruce Russell and Son received an award for horticultural excellence.
The Joc Watts award for contribution to Floral Guernsey went to Evan Ozanne, while the judges’ special commendation went to Mary Callaway, of the Forest Floral Group.
While St Martin’s won the award for best overall douzaine room, Forest, St Andrew’s and St Peter Port all received gold awards. Silver gilt awards were given for the St Peter’s and St Saviour’s douzaine rooms, with a silver award going to the Vale.
The schools award went to Amherst, which receives a £200 prize. Ten other schools also received £20 vouchers for their work.
