Guernsey aim for top flight
Tuesday 13th July 2010, 2:30PM BST.
PROMOTION is the target for Guernsey as they host the ICC European Division Two Championship over the next week.
The island side are part of a six-team round robin event being held at the KGV, Port Soif and the College Field starting today and concluding on Monday and island coach Andy Cornford (pictured) agrees that the Sarnians are the tournament favourites.
‘That is people’s perception of us. Playing at home, people expect us to do well,’ he said.
‘But other teams are becoming more professional, they are getting better resources and better coaching and I’m expecting this to be a really tough competition.’
The hosts open their campaign against Gibraltar at the KGV today with France, Germany, Israel and Norway the four other nations involved.
