SOME 400 people yesterday paid their last respects to one of the best-loved figures in Guernsey football, Vale Rec chairman Dave Dorey.
St Sampson’s parish church was full to its 250 capacity half an hour before the funeral started and many mourners stood outside and listened to the service on a loudspeaker.
Friends wearing Vale Rec football shirts formed a guard of honour as Mr Dorey’s coffin was brought into the church grounds.
Mr Dorey’s friends paid tribute to him during the service, including Stephen Francis, who had known him for 30 years and worked with Mr Dorey at the Greffe. He said he did not know anyone in Guernsey with more friends.
