THERE must be something in the Barber genes when it come to rifle-shooting.

Max Barber, a 17-year-old pupil at Elizabeth College, scored maximum points at this week’s schools’ meeting to win the Iveagh Cup at 500 yards.

He followed that up with top score in the Ashburton Shield competition for school teams and secured third place in the overall ratings for the Schools’ Hundred.

Some 50 years ago, his father, Gresham, was doing the same sort of thing here at Bisley, his namesake grandfather, the Guernsey dentist, having set the dynasty going by representing the island at Bisley in the 1930s.
