The Ivy Earth Fair will break new ground for the Vale Earth Fair Collective, with two consecutive nights of live music at the Ivy Castle, aka Chateau des Marais.

While there is no Vale Earth Fair this year – giving the organisers something of a break following the massive success of 2009 – the Ivy Earth Fair promises to be a step up from the previous events at the venue.

The collective have also teamed up with Funk da Rock organisers for this musical extravaganza.

As with other Earth Fair events, there will be an array of genre-hopping acts sharing the spotlight on the 6 and 7 August. The event begins on the evening of Friday 6 August with Funk Andrew opening proceedings with their lively blend of funk and rock. They will be followed by Guernsey’s own hip-hop legends, the Asylum Seekas, and to round off the first night there is the awesome Introducing Live. DJ Shadow’s classic Endtroducing LP – considered by most to be uncoverable – is recreated live. ‘Introducing’ are not your average ‘covers’ band.

When released in 1996, Endtroducing made the Guiness Book of Records as the world’s first completely sampled album. Introducing take the whole thing full circle, and return those samples into live musicianship, in the image in which DJ Shadow created them. Introducing’s note-for-note nine-piece recreation has been turning heads on the festival circuit.

Following last year’s performance at Camp Bestival, Matt Derbyshire, the brains behind the band, said the idea seems to be gathering momentum.

‘We have gone to great lengths to recreate the exact sounds used in the original. The most important thing about what we are recreating is the sonic content. I think we’ve only got one loop in the whole set and the concept of any backing tracks were outlawed from day one.’

Headlining the Earth Stage inside the Chateau walls on Saturday 7 August will be up-and-coming electro punk outfit The Dirty Rich from the UK.

The band mix crashing samples and drums with crunching guitars and groove-laden keyboards to produce a sound somewhere between the Beastie Boys, Prodigy and Audio Bullys. If you like your electro punk grimy then The Dirty Rich might just tickle your fancy. Ploughing relentlessly forward with a complete disregard for genre, the end result is a wall of sound that has been eclipsing venues throughout London.

Source, featuring the legendary Jungle Drummer, will be headlining the Funk da Rock stage. For those who went to FDR last August and witnessed Jungle Drummer vs DJ FU, this is the treat you will be in for once again this year.

Live drums vs decks? A mish-mash of live drum and bass, electro, breaks, dubstep and garage. The Jungle Drummer has also appeared at the Vale Earth Fair previously, beating out the rhythm for headliners London Elektricity back in 2003.

Also appearing on the Funk da Rock stage will be DJ Unique Freq and Guernsey’s own pioneers of Dark Disco – Gay Army.

Other live acts include The Fuzzey Group, Earth Fair regulars from Jersey Benny the Moth, The Raffle, Jack Change, and Rihanna Sanchez-Watts. Interspersed with the live music will be a host of DJs: Ollie & Leon, the Funhouse DJs, Pressure, Mista, and Will Jones.

Completing the line-up on the Earth Stage before The Dirty Rich will be Guernsey’s own stoner rock groovers Teaspoonriverneck, UK-based two-piece Science of Eight Limbs, a welcome return and last appearance for a while for Toupe, Pushang, Jersey’s The Mulburys, Big Sheep – coming all the way from Sark, and three relatively new acts on the scene: Evil Weevil, Tantale and WaxOff.

There is also a ‘busking’ stage which will feature The John Wesley Stone, The ID Shade, Parched, Wes & more, with DJ sounds into the evening provided by DJ HighLab.

To top all that there is also an after party at Fusion Nightclub, featuring more of the Jungle Drummer and DJ Blazin, Asylum Seekas and more DJs.
