MORE than 1,000 people have signed a petition to get the animal welfare law back on the States agenda.
Animal Aid founder Sue Vidamour, who recently dissolved that charity and started campaign group Promoting Animal Welfare, set up a stall in Market Square on Saturday to encourage islanders to sign the petition and 1,086 put pen to paper.
Mrs Vidamour has recently highlighted the plight of some local animals through the Guernsey Press and has since been inundated with calls, she said.
‘I’m really pleased with the response. Everybody was saying well done. They had no idea it was going on. We’ve had lots of people from the cruise ships. They have seen the photos and don’t believe it could happen here.’

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
So they managed to collect a 1000 signatures from an island that has a population of 64000 and with however many of that 1000 from cruise ships who probably didn’t have a clue about what laws we do have in place or the “authenticity” of Sue’s photos.
Yea….er…well done?

Wow. Signatures geing collected regarding animal welfare – yet sex abuse by parents against their own children continues unabated?

What exactly is your problem Dave?someone is doing something about what she feels strongly about, instead of being negative about ppl why don’t you get off your A:::S and do something you believe in instead of moaning and groaning about others.. It is ppl like you who needs to get a life..just because animals are not on the top of your list… Find something that is of interest to you and do something about it. Good luck sue ignore the ignorant ppl in this world

Well Dave, Guernsey apathy still does not excuse animal cruelty…any more than world apathy did not excuse aparthied in South Africa when it was running its full course.
Seems to me you have a little hidden smirk about your perceived lack of support for Sue Vidamour…hidden smirk, or hidden agenda?

It doesnt matter if most of the signatures came from people off cruise ships, its the fact that Guernsey is behind on the animal welfare law, when it should infact be like the U.K and already have the law in place.
as to the authenticity of sues photo’s they’re 100%. visiting animal aid and seeing the cases sue has to deal with is sickening.
Its about time the states get their head out the ground and sort it the hell out.

@miss619 regarding the authenticity my comment was referring to some comments that were made about the pictures when the story was in the Press. Something about some of the animals were receiving treatment etc, hence the authenticity of pictures of “abused” animals was questioned.
@coco don’t get me wrong I think it’s a worth while cause however my comment (whilst a bit tongue in cheek) was meant to say whilst they indeed started with it if they continue with it a headline of “we have 10,000 signatures” will be much more effective.
No hidden agenda here, I can only see good things come from this sort of legislation so not sure what you mean by a hidden agenda…but each to their own.
