Groves breaks hill record and his car

TO SAY Martin Groves enjoyed mixed fortunes at Le Val des Terres on Saturday would be something of an understatement.

The double national hill climb champion, who is a legend up the famous Guernsey course, obliterated the outright hill record he set in the same meeting back in 2007.

That time was 27.86sec. and after his qualifying times, which were quick despite a couple of uncharacteristic errors, hopes were high of the record falling.

Groves duly obliged, but the manner in which he did it was sensational.

    I was stood at the top of the hill right opposite were Martin hit the bank. Big impact!!
    Looked at the clock just a split second before and it read 24 seconds… so if he had crossed the line it would have been Guernsey motorsports first sub 27 second run.
