GUERNSEY are virtually uncatchable.

Mathematically, it is still possible for Germany to come out on top of the ICC European Division Two Championship this evening, but it would require them to win and Guernsey to lose by a huge margin to Norway.

The way the hosts have approached this tournament, though, that all seems highly unlikely.

France looked set to provide the sternest test of the Sarnians’ credentials so far at Port Soif on Saturday, but in the end it turned into another comfortable victory for the Greens.

Promotion from Division 2 has been suspended i believe and so Guernsey will remain in Division 2-due to ICC Europe restructuring

That’s not correct. Nobody is staying in either Division 1 or Division 2. These were the last senior 50-over tournaments in their current format. From now on the senior tournaments will be a mixture of T20 regional qualifying tournaments for the T20 World Cup and bi-lateral, triangular and quadrangular 50-over competitions for those countries who are embedded in World Cricket League.

Ironically under the current structure if Jersey were to finish below Guernsey in next year’s World Cricket League Division 6, then Jersey wod have been relegated to European Division 2 by falling outside of Europe’s top 6-ranked sides, which would have been quite bizarre!

Well done to Jersey and Guernsey for winning their respective tournaments this week and for really putting the islands on the map. The inter-insular in a month’s time should be an absolutely cracking match. May the best team win (provided that they are wearing green of course!).
