Alderney demands guarantees before any sale of Aurigny
Wednesday 21st July 2010, 2:29PM BST.
AN ALDERNEY politician wants a guarantee Blue Islands will continue to operate flights from the island to Southampton before supporting any deal to sell Aurigny.
As one of Alderney’s representatives in the States of Guernsey, Richard Willmott would be able to vote on proposals to sell the airline if they were presented to the Assembly. Treasury and Resources has agreed in principle to sell the loss-making airline to Blue Islands and the deal has now entered a two-month period of due diligence.
At present, Aurigny provides Alderney’s only direct flights to the UK through the Southampton link, which Mr Willmott (pictured) said was vital to the island’s economy.
‘Until such time that the guarantees in place for the Southampton to Alderney route are rock solid, I won’t support it.’

Richard – the only guarantee is to reject the offer. No other form of guarantee will be worth the paper it is written on and I suspect you know it.

The only safe answer for Alderney is to reject the Blue Island offer.

I agree with above, there are no guarantees. The next thing is the States of Guernsey will try to sell our Airport like they tried to do before. Hope they do not do a deal with DC for that as well!!!!

Legally Enforceable Contract please.

The only guarantee that can be made is that if Aurigny were to be sold to another airline, after a couple of years, there will be a re-branding of the resulting company and the name Aurigny will be lost, together with the yellow livery forwever. If Aurigny really is making a loss, why would any company wish to buy it, unless it wishes to replace the Aurigny services with its own.
