Chris WhitworthYOUNG batsmen came to the fore in an incredible run-fest at the KGV last night.

Optimists and Grant Thornton shared 421 runs in Barclays Wealth Evening League Division One, with Optis just holding on in the final over for a three-run victory.

Chris Whitworth (pictured) led the way for the victors with 111, which included 17 fours and a six.

He shared in an opening stand of 191 with Adam Le Page, who finished unbeaten on 73, as Optis compiled 212 for one from their 20 overs.
