Barracudas’ big medal haul
Thursday 22nd July 2010, 2:29PM BST.
A TEAM of 53 swimmers aged between 8 and 13 years from the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club returned from Jersey weighed down with a huge haul of medals from the 11th Summer Graded Sprint Meet staged by the Jersey Swimming Club and involving the four Channel Island clubs.
The event is very much about motivation, with rewards not only for the fastest times but also recognising those swimmers who have yet to reach their full potential by dividing the meet into an A and B graded structure, thus allowing new faces to shine.
Swimmers improving on their entered time by over three seconds in the B category were awarded ‘speeding tickets’.
Eleven-year-old Alex Parfit (pictured) shone, winning the Best Male Performance trophy with no fewer than seven A gold and two B gold medals.
