MPs and Lord Mayor agree on island’s value to the City

GUERNSEY’S international contribution as a finance centre has been lauded by the Lord Mayor of the City of London and by UK Parliamentarians.
Yesterday’s island visit by Lord Mayor Nick Anstee coincided with Conservative MP Mark Field’s speech on offshore finance centres to the House of Commons.
Mr Field said the Channel Islands had helped the UK fight off the global recession through the two financial centres’ business links and that, as international finance centres, they also helped developing countries to expand their economies.
The Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mark Hoban, responded by acknowledging the importance of Guernsey and other Crown Dependencies’ business links to the UK, describing them as ‘important mechanisms for providing funding to the City of London’.

All very well to be in agreement with a place far removed from the needs of Guernsey,
There are so many things that need mending, yet he the CM goes here there and everywhere on a joy ride of boosting his image, yet has dark sun glasses for the needs of some items in Guernsey.
Always the old song comes to the fore.
“We ain’t got a barrel of money-”
Ah well ‘its hoped that at election next time people will remember that old school ties do wear out.
