Organisers lose cash but carnival will come back
Monday 26th July 2010, 11:30AM BST.
CARNIVAL will come back to the streets of St Peter Port next year, although this year’s event left the organisers out of pocket.

Town Centre Partnership executive officer Jack Honeybill said the group expected to lose about £5,000 on this year’s event but the 2011 carnival was already being planned for 23-30 July next year.
That will put it at the beginning of most schools’ summer holidays. This year’s carnival was in the last week of term.

I think Tropical Vizion are a big draw for the Town Carnival, I watched them for a while at the weekend, they are very very good fun to watch.

Waste of time and money the lot of it.

Bah Humbug!!
We complain that theres nothing to do, and we also complain when something does happen!
I have plenty to do thank you, you won’t find me complaining of that! I just fail to see any real value in the Town Carnival.
Eh – how about the joy of a happy child, does that not have real value?
if it’s a waste of money, it’s someone else’s money so you have nothing to complain about
Report abuse
Well I’m happy for you that your life is so full and varied you dont derive any joy in the events of the town carnival.
Many many other people see a lot of value in it, and get joy from it, for example the elderly who venture out into town to see some of the attractions.
You could also say it may actually give people something to do who otherwise may be bored.

Not be be confused with Eh, I might need to change my name – must ask my Mum…
TL, you would have had more chance of seeing a happy child if the halfwits who organised the event had scheduled it for after the start of the state school holibobs!!!

TL
This year, the reason the child would have been happy, was that they were bonking off school.
Due to the amazing organisational skills of Jack Honeydipper.
What a plank.

“Joy of a happy child” – The children I saw were either (a) terrified of the clown / Punch & Judy etc or (b) chucking a tantrum, which is what one frequently sees of small children in town, so no change there then!

Steve
In my day we used to Bunk off school.
Although your alternative sounds a lot more exciting ;-)

Hates the town carnival
Evidently hates children
We are a bundle of joy arent we??
I would have been exceedingly happy if I was “bonking” off school too!
;)
Well spotted Dave.
Yes that would have been worth missing school for!
Eh – i’m convinced now, but tell me – i need to know – which one of The Old Gits are you?

How does a carnival lose money in my childhood town the idea of carnival week was to raise money for charity several small events during the week followed by parade of floats made and decorated by local businesses and buckets for collecting money (therefore good pr and advertising for local companys and money raised for charity)along with marching bands etc.
I think this event needs a rethink if it is losing money

All you sad Victor Meldrew Meldrew types that dont like the carnival it creates a pleasant ambience for locals and visitors.
As for those saying what a waste of money (£5000) just think what is wasted by incompetence within the Island in the order of things there are bigger fish to fry than the Carnival

Steve
I totally agree with your comment, and I do hope that Jack Honeybill
has been replaced by next year as he really is so incompetent.
This year has been a disaster by not being in the school holidays.
Also to my mind its ridiculous having just one week to hold to hold the carnival, why not have one or two days a week of entertainment spread over say 6 weeks..
We are not even into August and there is very little going on in town which should be our busiest month tourist wise.

I feel walking through town when the carnival is on is great to watch and it makes people happy. I do find maybe it is too much money when the funds are needed in other places?
