No change to deal, Treasury minister says

TREASURY minister Charles Parkinson yesterday gave deputies a categorical assurance that the proposed deal to sell Aurigny to Blue Islands had not changed.

But the department also put a gagging order on Aurigny managing director Malcolm Hart, preventing him from discussing reports that Blue Islands had contacted the States-owned airline suggesting an alternative deal that would see them work together to make savings.

Several senior States members had heard ‘strong rumours’ that the landscape of the deal had changed and it would now be the larger Aurigny looking to take over Blue Islands.

I do not support any of the reasons as to why this idea was even put forard in the first place.

Keeping the Gatwick link control has never changed.

If this deal is so clear cut and above board why was Malcolm Hart prevented from saying anything..all very fishy, nothing new from our States I fear.
This is a short sighted move that can only be intended to make the books look good for T&R and its members come election time.
In the long term it’s difficult to see how a company such as Blue Islands will make such a difference (other than the fact that it’s not the States Owned Airline losing money) and if it falls flat on its face in 2 years time and we are left with only Flybe and possibly no Gatwick slots who will sort the mess out then.
I expect CP and his merry band will have moved on by then and it’ll be blamed on the
“Old States” by the slippery shouldered politicians.
