UK’s simpler tax of long-term help

PLANS to make taxation simpler for investors, businesses and consumers in the UK could benefit Guernsey in the long run, according to a local tax expert.

Jo Huxtable, tax director at Deloitte in Guernsey, said that the island’s symbiotic relationship with the City of London would mean that if the changes anticipated by UK chancellor George Osborne were successfully implemented and resulted in more investment being attracted into the UK then it could benefit businesses locally too.

The launch of the Office of Tax Simplification in the UK aims to make the tax system an asset to the economy and to identify areas where complexities in the tax system can be reduced, both for businesses and the individual taxpayer.
