World snubs our quality facilities

THE London Olympic Games are now less than two years away, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that Guernsey will play any direct part in the build-up.

It had been hoped that the island’s facilities may be used by various countries in their final preparations before the 2012 Games begin in the English capital.

But while there have been some tentative enquiries, the island’s sports development manager Graham Chester thinks the possibility may have hit a dead end.

‘We are not really expecting anything to happen about it,’ he said.

‘It would probably be quite lucky if we did now. There were some initial enquiries, but we have heard nothing back from anyone.’

seriously, did they really think that some countries would want to prepare here? We may have good facilities but so have many towns and cities up and down the UK and they have no fog/transport issues to get to London for the opening ceremony!

Its not just the UK they are up against. So much has been made about how the Olympics would be spread across the UK with nations using training facilities there but the reality is that teams can choose anywhere in Europe should they wish – all they need to do is get on a plane for a short journey to London.
