Gangs to blame for doubling of burglaries

SMALL gangs of burglars have been blamed by police chief George Le Page for a doubling in 12 months of that type of crime.

Speaking after the release of his annual report, he said the number of burglaries from dwellings had more than doubled from 2008 to 2009, from 62 incidents to 135.
He said there were particular troublemakers of whom the police were aware. ‘Although to the people who are subjected to this it is devastating, the perpetrators are confined to small groups of individuals. There are probably about four or five groups out there.’
