BRIDGE businesses have welcomed the planning department’s downsizing of proposals for Leale’s Yard.
Jeweller Ray & Scott Ltd co-owner Jeff Fox believed the original plans were too big.
‘I’m pleased they are scaling down a bit,’ he said.
‘We don’t want to be like Jersey, with out-of-town shopping.’
He thinks the development would be good for St Sampson’s and Guernsey.
‘I think we do need to move on,’ he said.
‘We do have the wrong mix of retail shops in the island, so Guernsey shoppers are going onto the internet.
‘We need to redress the retail balance. Shops need to be bigger and this would be progress.’
