Harbour wants new workboat by 2013

THE SARNIA workboat must be replaced within the next three years, according to harbour master Captain Peter Gill.
Today he sent a report to the Public Services Department stating that a £1m. new boat needed to be approved.
The Sarnia was built in 1986 with a 20- to 25- year lifespan.
Captain Gill said the vessel has been regularly serviced but was reaching the end of its life.

I hear the Condor 10 is for sale, although it may be the first time in history that the workboat gets delays.

Looks exactly the same as the old one, so what do they need a new one for?
Surely boats are meant to last for more than 25 years aren’t they?

With the way the fishing industry is contracting will we really need both a harbour workboat and a sea fisheries protection vessel in future?
This is just a question, that’s all. I’m no expert but I wonder if there a case for rationalising in this area?
