Gary WallbridgeREJUVENATING Delancey Park could seriously affect the development of cycling in the island, according to the Guernsey Velo Club.

President Gary Wallbridge (pictured) said the now informal park had absolutely everything the group needed to develop children’s cycling, but he feared plans for three playgrounds and an adult fitness area would prove detrimental.

‘We love Delancey Park as it is, it’s an absolute gem.

He was keen to see the lower part of the park, towards the gun battery that overlooks the Little Russel, left as it was, as it included slopes and rough sections ideal for children learning to handle their bikes.

Well, instead of demoaning the plans get in with the action and be part of it, that way cyclists I’m sure will be catered for.
It’s possible the plan designers have little idea of how important the cycle track is to the velo club etc.
Very good for others as it keeps the cyclists off the roads and safe.

I think all the parks are in need of renovation also the small one in St Martins. What they all need is frequent police patrols or cameras to catch the vandals and what we dont need is ridiculous States signs like that at Saumarez Park saying “It is an offence to cycle at the park over the age of nine!”
