The small site off Cornet Street, St Peter Port, has been an empty lot for many years and has a troubled history. Plans for a four-storey block with 12 apartments were withdrawn last year following an outcry from neighbours.

The owner, Coupee Lane Ltd, amended the scheme to try to fit in with the Environment Department’s suggestions. The newly-proposed building still had four storeys but featured a sloping roof and 11 two-bedroom apartments. However this week permission was again refused.

Bryn Le Poidevin, 42 (pictured), lives in Cliff Street and his property overlooks the site.‘We are delighted that this monstrosity has been refused,’ he said.
