ANN BOWDITCH was the only woman rider able to compete with the men in Jersey’s Hougue Bie Road Race, held over nine laps of the 4.5-mile course.

The pace was fast from the off at over 24mph, a speed that was maintained for the entire race.

There was a large peloton to start with but, with such a fast pace, competitors were beginning to find the going tough and lost touch with the main group.

Bowditch had to be alert in order to position herself well in the peleton with two short climbs and some tricky and fast descents.
