Rec breathe sigh of relief on U21s

Wednesday 18th August 2010, 2:30PM BST.

Carl Le TissierVALE REC have been spared an exodus of young players after the GFA announced the Under-21 Development League would go ahead.

The Corbet Field club and their Grand Fort Road neighbours North looked set to be the two big losers if the league had been dropped, which had been feared after the withdrawal of Sylvans, Rovers and St Martin’s.

Carl Le Tissier (pictured), Rec’s senior coach and formerly in charge of the juniors, yesterday emphasised the importance of the decisions the GFA board made at a meeting on Monday, as they mean that the club can keep hold of some players.

‘We would have lost six or seven players totally if the under-21s had been scrapped, because we simply would have had too many numbers to play them in the second team,’ he said.
