TREACHEROUS conditions, coupled with a significant spring tide, led to disaster for at least one boat in last weekend’s Sure Herm Rowing Regatta.
The crew of 7dayshop.com ended up on the rocks, with a hole in their boat to show for their efforts.
The boat’s skipper, Sam De Kooker, explained the lead-up to the strike.
‘We were heading from the west coast of Herm to the north coast, and had to go round a guard boat and managed to get caught,’ he said.
‘When I saw the rocks about five metres away in my peripheral vision,I knew we were in trouble.’
