A PROPOSED all-in-one waste park has attracted widespread backing from prominent islanders and potential investors.

The comprehensive Longue Hougue scheme, which would include a sewage treatment plant, was designed by composting technology expert Dick Bilborough (pictured), whose idea was to create a locally-run waste solution involving as much on-island expertise and existing businesses as possible while maximising recycling.

Mr Bilborough’s plans have been supported by eight mystery backers and their identities remained protected yesterday by all those with knowledge of the proposals spoken to by the Guernsey Press.

Cenkos investment management has been financially supporting Mr Bilborough throughout the development of the plans and Bailiwick Investments – a company created by leading businessmen to offer the States help in funding major capital investments – would be very keen to deepen its involvement.
