ANTHONY QUERIPEL took full advantage of Daniel Winterton’s absence to claim the King of the Beach crown on Saturday.

The local star proved unbeatable on a grey August afternoon when the two most sought after trophies were up for grabs at the latest sand race meeting.

Along with the title of King of the Beach for the bike riders, the car drivers had to face the 20-lap handicap race for the Victoria Trophy.

Also on the programme were three races for apprentice riders – those who had either never ridden on the beach before or only as juniors – all on 500cc slider machines.
