‘You may have the key piece to solve sex attack jigsaw’
Friday 20th August 2010, 1:00PM BST.
GUERNSEY Police have received a number of calls following two separate sexual assaults on lone females in Town, although no arrests have been made.
Investigations are continuing into the incidents last month in Forest Lane and Cambridge Park in which young women were targeted during the early hours of the morning. It remains unclear if the two assaults are linked.
Following criticism of the force for not immediately releasing information about the attacks, Chief Inspector Ruari Hardy (pictured) yesterday again defended the delay. ‘The decision not to disclose either offence to the media straight away was an operational decision made in an attempt to further the investigation,’ he said.
‘I would encourage anyone with any information to call police headquarters and speak with an officer. Your small piece of information may be the key piece in the jigsaw.’

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
This highlights the attitude that unfortunately appears to be prevalent amongst today’s law enforcement bodies.
Defending the decision to keep these offences under wraps is quite shocking really, I’d love to know how that helped to “further the investigation”. Can anyone enlighten me?

Phil:
The decision made does seem to be way way off at first glance. Initially I was very critical of this, however having had time to reflect I am mindful of how easy everything is with hindsight. And let’s face it, we don’t know why they withheld. Perhaps it was necessary, and perhaps due to the nature of the necessity we will not be privy to the information we need to satisfy ourselves of the police’s competence.
I am minded to give them the benefit of the doubt.
