The ‘choppers’ are out for Loveridge

ALICE LOVERIDGE begins her campaign for Youth Olympics glory today after at long last finding out the route she will have to take through the tournament.
She has been drawn in Group F in the round robin stage and, with the table tennis the last event to start at the Youth Olympics in Singapore, Loveridge’s first game was at 3.30am this morning British time.
That is against Li Isabelle Siyun, the tournament’s seventh seed and one of the favourites for a medal, as well as being a home favourite in Singapore. And the rest of the group is not much easier, as she also comes up against Japan’s Ayuka Tanioka, the 10th seed, and Julia Wu, an Asian who is representing New Zealand.
Loveridge’s mother Tina explained that her daughter is not overly happy with the draw. ‘Alice said “that’s typical – there are only two choppers in the draw and I’ve got them both.
