Alice chalks up wins

ALICE LOVERIDGE was yesterday making good progress in the consolation singles at the first Youth Olympics in Singapore.
The Guernsey girl finished third of four in her qualifying group, losing to the home favourite 3-0 and a Japanese player, but defeating the New Zealander Julia Wu.
Although out of medal contention in the next stage, she opened with wins over an Algerian, a Puerto Rican and a third player.
