CHANNEL ISLANDS last-round victory and promotion celebrations at Foote’s Lane were tempered by a new injury scare for Tom Druce.

Just 70 metres into the 400m A race, Druce collapsed clutching his left hamstring and the upshot is that he will now be doubtful for the Commonwealth Games in six weeks’ time.

Understandably, the Bath based runner was feeling distinctly miserable with the new injury so close to the games.

‘I’m in a bit of trouble now,’ groaned Druce, who felt he was slowly getting back to his best after a season plagued with niggles.

I appreciate that Tom Druce getting injured is a big story but surely the fact that CIAC won this meet should have got headlines?

Why is it that when someone is injured they always make the headlines?

What about the other people who actually took part and won their races, should they not have a mention rather than someone who didnt manage to finish there race…?

I was down there all day and it was very good to watch as everyone tried there hardest yet they dont get a mention, quite unfair i think!

Like Gsy-Girl, I was there throughout the meeting and must congratulate all the competitors, coaches, organisers, caterers, etc. for a thoroughly good event.

It’s a shame for Tom Druce and I do wish him a swift recovery but the overall outcome was a first rate success.

One small question… where but where were the recycling bins?

I don’t think they aim to shadow the success, but it’s sad for Guernsey to potentially lose a Commonwealth athlete due to injury. Athletes like Tom allow us to be patriotic when they compete on the big stage. Alongside this, this is what Tom works hard for each day. It is hugely sad to potentially lose a Guernsey athlete from such a big national games. I do genuinely hope he recovers soon.

I do however congratulate the success and victory of the meeting.

I can’t help but agree with the comments above. Why, on the back of a hugely succesful competition, does the story concentrate on the injury to an (admittedly elite) athlete?

His hair isn’t even that good.

I have been watching Tom Druce’s career with lots interest from Nigeria and can surely say this is a catastrophe. To those people who are saying the competition is more important, I will say that those watching were probably only there for Tom Druce in the first place. He is the one that draws the crowds. I surely hope he will be running in the commonwealth games to be sure of their great success.

I disagree with Celetine’s comments!! I only went down the track to watch Zac run 100m, although Tom was looking pretty hot on Saturday.
