The start of the walk leading from the Pitronnerie Road industrial estate. 1010738
SANDPIPER yesterday entered the row over Baubigny Schools pupils walking through Pitronnerie Road Industrial Estate.
The supermarket and wholesaling group, which owns the main estate road, said it was no place for children. But it admitted it was powerless to stop people walking there.
Businessmen on the estate said at the weekend that children would risk their lives if they used it as a short cut to reach a new pathway developed by Living Streets.
The road safety group had previously suggested the estate as a way to its route, but after Sandpiper said it did not want children walking in the area, an alternative route was recommended.
A Sandpiper spokesman endorsed the Pitronnerie businessmen’s claims.

“The road safety group had previously suggested the estate as a way to its route”
Have I misread this? A “road safety” group suggested that children walked through an Industrial Estate?!

Paul, could not have put it better myself.

I am sorry, I am all for childs safety but I cannot see that the new walk at the back of the track has changed for the better, in fact that photo above sends shivers up my spine I remember it well it is the beginning of that walk home when I used to go home to Les Capelles from the track. Remote areas will encourage bullying you are a long way from any houses at one point down there, I would not walk it now and I am in my fifties. In fact walked the other day thru the Cuckoo lanes and at one point that is very islolated, not nice at all.

This whole scheme just shows living Streets for what they are.
They may have the best of intentions, but this whole thing has been really badly done from the very start of their “grand scheme for child safety”. It just smacks of people with nothing better to do, getting involved in something they shouldnt be involved with and not having the skill to effectively complete.
Our children are pretty safe as it is, we dont need a bunch of doogooders sticking their nose in and actively putting our children in danger through their incompetence.

Excellent post, Ivor Biggun! When the latest problem to befall this ill-fated venture reared its head, I briefly felt some sympathy for Living Streets. As you say, they had good intentions and you can’t really knock them for that – they’re just seriously lacking in skill and expertise.
Let’s face it, it’s dead easy to sit around a coffee table with tea and biscuits putting the world to rights; the problem is the real world is slightly more complex. Perhaps we could all (me included) do with remembering that before giving our expert opinions!
