Reigning junior champion takes to court as a senior
Wednesday 25th August 2010, 2:29PM BST.
HEATHER WATSON is set to cap a whirlwind 12 months by playing on the hallowed courts of Flushing Meadow for the first time as a senior later today.
It was August of last year when the Sarnian became only the second Briton ever to win a Junior US Open title, after Andy Murray, by beating Yana Buchina 6-4, 6-1 in the final.
As a result of that, she has received a wildcard into the qualifying rounds of the senior event, which began yesterday.
The first round concludes today and Watson will face Lourdes Dominguez-Lino, a 29-year-old Spaniard currently ranked 151 in the world.
