We did not abandon a minor at Gatwick, says Aurigny MD

AURIGNY has denied ‘abandoning’ an unaccompanied minor at Gatwick during Sunday’s fog delays.
The passenger was a 14-year-old girl.
Aurigny managing director Malcolm Hart said only those up to the age of 11 could be classified as unaccompanied minors and the airline was not told the girl was travelling alone.
‘When a booking is made we give everyone the opportunity to help the airline deliver the appropriate service by asking for as much information as possible,’ said Mr Hart (pictured).
‘In this case, no advice was passed on to the airline and we had no request or instruction from the passenger’s parents on which to act.’

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
So the parents left the 14 year old on her own at gatwick – the parents are therefore to blame not Aurigny. Obviously the parents didn’t want to pay for the child to be looked after which all airlines charge now. To the child’s parents my message is don’t blame Aurigny – its you who are at fault
Report abuse
Surely the parents/guardians of the 14 year old, should have ensured they had got on a flight, and not just left them at the airport?
People know that flights are effected by weather and other unforseen circumstances. So why should it be the responsibility of the airline?
I know Aurigny have strict procedures for young children travelling alone, and I’m sure if they had know about the 14 year old they wouldn’t have left her on her own,her parents are responsible for her safety and welfare and should have made sure that she was going to be looked after. If the parents were really concerned about her they would have at least made sure she was safely on the plane.
