Civil service needs ‘top-down’ shake up

Roger DaddA POLITICAL pressure group has added its voice to the call for civil service reform.

Just a week after Guernsey Press editor Richard Digard spoke about the issue at the Chamber of Commerce lunch, the Guernsey Reform Group has now agreed and said that a top-down reorganisation of the civil service is essential for effective government.

The group has met politicians to discuss its goals and has recruited its first sitting member in Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher.

‘At a recent meeting between members of the group and a number of States members, including ministers and a deputy minister, it became clear that, in States-speak, the word reform is a euphemism for the introduction of cabinet government,’ said GRG member Roger Dadd (pictured) in a posting on its website.

‘Not the least benefit to come from that meeting was the opportunity to explain that Guernsey Reform Group is neither a political party nor an unwavering voice for change to an executive style of government.’
