Art project brings prisoners together

PRISONERS got the chance to show their artistic side in a project that will go forward into a national competition.

Artist Tina McCallan has been working on a scheme to get art back into the community. She has been encouraging islanders to recreate a masterpiece, last week at the West Show and this week at Les Nicolles Prison.

Head of learning and skills at the prison Julie Smith said it had started a new skills initiative that had run throughout the summer. Prisoners get a taster of subjects such as music, art and sport.

‘It has worked really well,’ she said. ‘It’s a good way to get them back into learning and it brings out different skills. It’s the first time the prison has done it and we are looking at doing it next year.’

This is a good way to get the art back into the community and it will spread round.

The west show arts exabittion I saw and thought that it wasa great way to get everytbody back into the art.

I also saw it when it was all finished and thought that it was amazing, people enjoy this thought of thing and it should be done more often, This is a good way and brings more people together.
